OEM Volkswagen Cylinder Heads Online
What is a Cylinder Head?
It's a cast-iron or aluminum housing located on the top of the engine block in your Volkswagen vehicle. It contains several major engine parts -- intake and exhaust valves, springs and lifters, and the combustion chamber, to name a few. This is the case whether you're behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Jetta, a Volkswagen Passat, or otherwise.
What Does a Cylinder Head Do?
Three things, for every car and SUV from the VW GTI to the VW Touareg. One is taking in air and fuel, a job done via ports or tracts, and expelling exhaust gases. Another is channeling coolant into the block to help keep the many parts of the engine cooler. The last is preventing water and oil from leaking into the combustion chambers; this is accomplished with help from a head gasket.
What Types of Cylinder Heads are There?
Three main ones. The flathead type is one. It helps protect the cylinder block, and it has no moving parts. The overhead type is another. It has a camshaft above it, and its pushrods and valves are connected, which smooths out airflow. The overhead camshaft type has a camshaft located inside it; this eliminates the need for pushrods, optimizes airflow, and increases engine efficiency.
What are the Signs of a Bad Cylinder Head?
Look for cracks (often from engine overheats), oil leaks, and coolant leaks (which can cause further engine overheating), and listen for a misfiring engine. You will also notice general engine performance problems. These usually present the same way, too, whether in a Volkswagen Beetle, a Volkswagen Golf, or otherwise. If you think yours is failing or has failed, do a thorough inspection and replace the cylinder head, if not your entire engine, according to what the results call for. Before you buy either of them, though, be sure they're the genuine OEM article.
Why Buy a Genuine Volkswagen Cylinder Head vs. an Aftermarket Cylinder Head?
The brand manufactures them to fit your model specifically. That's a fitment guarantee that you may not get on the aftermarket. Even if you do, off-brand auto parts can be less reliable.
